King’s Kids Academy of Health Sciences is a Public Charter school of Choice!  King’s Kids Academy of Health Sciences was birthed out of the vision of Tampa Bay Community and Family Development Corporation Organization a.k.a Bethesda Ministries Community Development Corporation.

Tampa Bay Community and Family Development Corporation Organization History (2000):

The Mission of Tampa Bay Community and Family Development Corporation (TBCFDC) aka Bethesda Ministries Community Development Corporation is to improve the economic, educational, and social status of disadvantaged and underprivileged individuals, families, and groups by creating and promoting opportunities for economic self-sufficiency and financial security. The organization serves the community in five areas, education, health, economic empowerment, employability and housing support.

TBCFDC was established in February, 1997, as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.  Its sole purpose is fostering and promoting community-wide interest and concern for the problems of disadvantaged and underprivileged individuals and families.  Located in the heart of the East Tampa Community, the original inspiration was the need to serve children in our community, however, the agency expanded to have a focus on families as the solutions to community problems must involve parents/guardians, community members and children.

One of the latest ventures that TBCFDC has embarked upon is King’s Kids Academy of Health Sciences for grades K-5, a Title I charter school.  From this venture, we have also been able to establish an extended day program to enhance the learning of the children. In its second year, KKAHS serves 84 students and their families, as the school is building enrollment gradually to reach the maximum capacity of 360 students by the fifth year of operation.

What is the difference between a charter school and a traditional public school?

Charter schools are independent public schools operated by a non-profit organization. They hire their own teachers, design their own academic program, and control their own finances. They have their own board of directors that make decisions for the school.

All charter schools must provide a curriculum that meets the Sunshine State Standards. These schools must also hire certified teachers. In Florida, charter schools are accountable to the school district in which they reside for student academic performance and fiscal management, but they are not managed by the district.
